Yo, I'm John Eis

and I hope you're having a great day :)

I’m an electrical engineer, and I love making things! From desks and Nerf blasters to MCUs and ultracold atoms.

Projects

Project 1 screenshot

FM & AM Control Circuits

Made constrained design choices based on available parts to design FM and AM circuits and their enclosure, used to drive hardware components and advance physics research.

  • Soldering
  • Datasheet Analysis
  • Circuits Theory

OTTER Micro Controller

Pictured is the BASYS 3 board (an FPGA board) I used to test my OTTER. I wrote the OTTER from scratch in SystemVerilog, building it block by block, then spent many hours debugging it in Xilinx Vivado.

  • SystemVerilog
  • Xilinx Vivado
  • RISC-V Assembly

DAC

Simulated in LTspice and validated waveforms on an oscilloscope. Designed and printed a prototype PCB using Fusion 360, then soldered components with an iron and a reflow oven. The circuit included Arduino-driven binary inputs and a summing amplifier circuit to flip and "shrink" the signal.

  • Fusion 360
  • LTspice
  • Reflow oven

Signal Control Box

Created a control box for shutter drivers and DC power supplies, designing its circuits with safety in mind so the right signals are sent at the right time without damaging any optics equipment.

    Ultra"cool" Poster

Selected important topics, technical terms, and depictions to help present my team's work in an understandable way, then organized the information in a manner I believe is "easy" to follow. Gave presentations at multiple colloquiums.

      Path Finding Guy

Designed the robot using DC motors, a motion sensor, dual motor drivers (for Arduino current protection), and a body and wheels found on Amazon, then programmed it on the Arduino in C++. Soldered and wired everything together. The robot autonomously avoids obstacles.

      • Arduino IDE

      Hobbies

      • soccer
      • skating
      • keep up
      • piano
      • hiking/swimming
      • drawing
      • guitar
      • biking

      Creations (just a few)

      Creation 1 screenshot

      Desk

Designed the desk's architecture, then cut, drilled, sanded, and put it all together.

        Creation 2 screenshot

        The Vulcan

High-power circuit design using a LiPo battery. Custom internals, including circuit design for both an interactive light-up mode and a constant display mode (the "interactive mode" is pictured above). It was also sanded and spray-painted.

          Creation 3 screenshot

          Phase 1 Helmet

3D printed in PLA on a Bambu printer, then sanded, spray-painted, and glued together.
